Delorean Ownership (Driving, Maintenance, Exhibition):

On October 12th, 2013 I finally chased down a dream I've had since I was a child and bought my dream car - a Delorean!

I had wanted a Delorean ever since I had first seen Back to the Future as a child. Thanks to all my hard work in school and in the IT field I had finally earned enough money to buy it. It's been quite an adventure thus far.

Driving a Delorean around is guaranteed to elicit a response from just about anybody (good, bad, or otherwise!). Overall, reactions are positive, and I really enjoy the looks of happiness I see on those that get to see the car. Especially those of children!

Owning a Delorean has offered me lots of opportunities to learn how to fix cars. Though it can be challenging (and costly), it's an opportunity to learn new skills in something outside of my primary field of study, and I love it for that.

My favorite part about owning the Delorean is the Owner's club I joined - the Deloeran Mid Atlantic. The members of this club are some of the friendliest, helpful, and most accepting group I've ever met. I've made some very great friends in this club!

Vintage Electronics:

My Electronics Workbench

For as long as I can remember I've had a fascination with vintage electronics. My dad taught me some very basic things about electronics, which inspired me to learn more about it. I had a very specific interest in electronics from the vacuum tube era. In order to expand my knowlege on the subject I joined a club devoted to preservation and education on vintage electronics: the New Jersey Antique Radio Club.

While being a member of this club, I've learned some of the basic principles of electricity, basic radio theory, troubleshooting methods, and practical usage of many different types of test equipment.

My favorite part about being a member of the NJARC is the diverse backgrounds and rich history the membership brings along with them. There are people from every walk of life in this club, and all of them are brought together based on their love for vintage electronics!

The NJARC have a museum dedicated to radio\electronics history called the Radio Technology Museum. The Museum is located on the grounds of the InfoAge Science and History Learning Center in Wall Township, NJ.

Autographs:

One of the oldest hobbies I still actively partake in is Autograph Collecting. I started collecting autographs when I took the "Collectibles" project in 4-H. It was a hobby that I found very unqiue, and exiting. My first autograph I received was of "Mr. McFeely" from "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood". My parents held onto it for me, and I thought it was cool.

The vast majority of my autographs have come from requests through the mail. I send a letter of recognition to someone who means something special to me, and ask for an autograph. If I'm lucky, I get a response. If not, I at least get a chance to send a ltter of thanks to someone who made an impact on my life. I've been pretty fortunate in that most of my requests have been fulfilled. I've gotten autographs from inventors, actors/actresses, musicians, astronauts, and athletes.

Of course, the most exiting autographs to receive are the ones received in person. It's very interesting for me to see how my impression of someone lives up to an in-person encounter. It gives you a brief moment to see whether the person lives up to the persona you perceive them to have.

My most cherished autograph is probably that of Christopher Lloyd, who played "Doc Brown" in "Back to the Future". I had a chance to meet him in June 2014 at a Delorean-themed car show. He took time to meet everyone who brought a Delorean. I was able to get my picture with him, and he signed the glove box of my Deloeran! That was quite an exciting day!
